1099-K and Tax Reporting

What you need to know about tax forms and eBay selling income.

This is general information, not tax advice.

Tax rules change. Always consult a qualified tax professional or CPA for advice specific to your situation.

Who sends 1099-K forms?

eBay — not SnapList — is responsible for issuing Form 1099-K to sellers. SnapList is a listing and inventory management tool. We do not process payments, hold funds, or report income to the IRS on your behalf.

Reporting thresholds

The IRS has been phasing in lower 1099-K thresholds for third-party payment platforms. Based on IRS guidance in effect as of early 2026:

  • Tax year 2024: Threshold was $20,000 in gross payments and more than 200 transactions (the pre-ARP threshold extended by IRS transition relief).
  • Tax year 2025: Threshold is $2,500 in gross payments (IRS transition relief Notice 2024-85).
  • Tax year 2026 and beyond: The statutory threshold drops to $600 unless Congress acts or the IRS issues further relief.

These thresholds apply to gross payment volume — not net profit. Verify current thresholds on IRS.gov or with your tax professional before filing.

What eBay reports

eBay reports the gross amount of payments you received — this is the full sale price paid by buyers, before eBay fees, shipping costs, or your cost of goods. The 1099-K gross amount is not your taxable profit. You may be able to deduct selling expenses; consult a tax professional.

What SnapList does

SnapList helps you:

  • Track your cost of goods (the price you paid for items)
  • Record sale prices and calculate estimated profit margins
  • Export inventory and sales data for your records

This data can help you or your accountant calculate net profit and document deductible expenses, but SnapList does not prepare or file tax returns and does not provide tax advice.

What SnapList does NOT do

  • Issue 1099-K forms
  • Report income to the IRS or any tax authority
  • Withhold taxes from any amounts
  • Provide legal or tax advice
